My Academic Journey

In 1994, right out of high school, I attended the University of IL at Chicago. I found that I had been ill-prepared for college and struggled with the mateial.

The following year, I enrolled at Harold Washington City College. I would remain at Harold Washington College for the next 16 years, taking classes here and there.

After 16 years, I had taken enough classes to earn an Associate's in General Studies. While others were proud and congratulating me, I was disappointing. Sixteen years to obtain an Associate's degree was nothing to brag about in my opinion. However, I took the disappointment and turned it into drive and determination to further pursue my education.

I realized a passion for the arts, in particular, graphic design and acting. I began looking for programs in these areas which would be affordable for me. A friend told me about Governors State University. I discovered that GSU was definitely the place for me. The multimedia program was suitable to my interests and passions. The tuition was affordable, and the class schedule would fit into my schedule of family and fulltime work.

My only concern at this point was whether or not I would be able to handle the work load and the complexity of the coursework on the university level.

The following is a table detailing my academic progress at GSU so far.
